{"id":20,"date":"2006-04-22T20:43:00","date_gmt":"2006-04-22T17:43:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rocky-peak.com\/blog\/?p=20"},"modified":"2006-04-22T20:43:00","modified_gmt":"2006-04-22T17:43:00","slug":"snow-hits-bow-valley-again-in-late","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rocky-peak.com\/blog\/2006\/04\/snow-hits-bow-valley-again-in-late.html","title":{"rendered":"Snow hits the Bow Valley again in late April!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-family: verdana;\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:100%;\">After experiencing temperatures in the twenties (degree centigrade) yesterday, just over night, the clouds came in the covered the <st1:place><st1:placename>Bow<\/st1:PlaceName>  <st1:placetype>Valley<\/st1:PlaceType><\/st1:place> with snow again.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>The golf courses had started to turn green, and the bears had started to wake up, now everything is once again a wintery white.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-family: verdana;\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:100%;\"><o:p><\/o:p>This is great news for skiers and snowboarders, as <st1:place>Lake  Louise<\/st1:place>, Sunshine and <st1:place><st1:placename>Jasper<\/st1:PlaceName>  <st1:placename>Marmot<\/st1:PlaceName> <st1:placetype>Basin<\/st1:PlaceType><\/st1:place> are still open and going strong.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>There are some great last minute deals to get out here, and the ski hills are very quiet this time of year!<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-family: verdana;\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:100%;\"><o:p><\/o:p>Why such a rapid temperature change?<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-family: verdana;\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:100%;\"><o:p><\/o:p>Rapid temperature changes are quite normal here in the Canadian Rockies.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>They are due to Chinook winds which usually begin with a sudden change in wind direction over the <st1:place>Pacific Ocean<\/st1:place>, towards the west or southwest, and with a rapid increase in wind speed.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-family: verdana;\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:100%;\"><o:p><\/o:p>These winds move across B.C. towards the <st1:place>Rockies<\/st1:place>.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>As these winds move across the barrier of mountains (the <st1:place>Rockies<\/st1:place>), they often push a band of clouds in front of them, which are visible on the western horizon.
